2026 Denza N8: A Five-Seat Luxury Electric SUV Built For Families Who Outgrew Three Rows

Most large electric SUVs in 2026 chase three rows and seven seats. Denza is going the other way. The all-electric N8, which opens for customer reservations on October 26, 2026 and launches in November, is deliberately a five-seat SUV - a 5.15-metre body with no third row, a 3,075 mm wheelbase, and a cabin designed around four or five adults plus their luggage. Denza calls it "the king of large five-seat pure electric vehicles."

The bet is simple: a huge share of family SUV buyers never use the third row. They get stuck with compromised rear legroom, a tiny cargo bay and a heavier vehicle for no benefit. The N8 reinvests that weight and length into rear passenger space, a larger boot, and a 130.15 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 good for a 1,003 km CLTC range - with a 1,500 kW flash charge that returns the pack from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

Why Five Seats Instead of Six or Seven?

The N8 is the shorter, five-seat sibling of the six-seat Denza N8L. The two share the same width, height and 3,075 mm wheelbase; the N8 is 50 mm shorter overall because it removes the third row. For a family of four or five, that trade buys a substantially wider rear bench, a flatter-folding back seat and a much larger cargo area behind the second row.

Denza's marketing explicitly frames the N8 as a "wide five-seat SUV" aimed at "family users who prioritise rear comfort and luggage space." It is the anti-minivan: big enough for long trips, but not carrying empty seats most of the year.

A Cabin Designed Around Long-Distance Comfort

The interior is where the family focus shows up. A 30-inch center infotainment screen stretches across the passenger-side dashboard, while a 1.1-metre panoramic head-up display (PHUD) replaces the traditional instrument binnacle, projecting navigation and speed directly into the driver's forward view. Materials lean light-luxury: soft-touch panels, a crystal floating gear selector, door-mounted control islands and a flowing ambient-light strip.

Chassis specs also lean into comfort rather than track attacking: BYD dual-chamber air suspension, adaptive damping and rear-wheel steering that twists the rear wheels up to 10° to deliver a 4.58 m turning radius - smaller than many compact SUVs, which makes the 5.15 m N8 manageable in city carparks and U-turns.

1,003 km Range and a 9-Minute Pit Stop

The family road-trip equation is where the N8 makes its strongest case. The 130.15 kWh LFP Blade 2.0 pack is certified at 1,003 km on the CLTC cycle; more realistic real-world figures will sit around 750–800 km on WLTP. Two smaller range tiers (800 and 840 km) and a 970 km variant cover the rest of the line-up.

What changes the long-distance conversation is charging speed. BYD's 1,500 kW-class Flash Charging tops the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes - close to the time it takes to grab coffee and snacks at a highway service area. For families used to planning trips around 40-minute charging stops, that is the more meaningful upgrade than the range number itself.

Power: From Efficient Cruiser to 1,210 PS Flagship

Three powertrains are certified. The two rear-drive variants make 320 kW (435 PS) and 370 kW (503 PS) respectively - more than enough for a 2.7-tonne family SUV. The flagship "e3" tri-motor AWD model stacks a 270 kW front motor with two 310 kW rear motors for 890 kW (1,210 PS) total, with a sub-4-second 0–100 km/h time. All variants are limited to 240 km/h. Staggered tires (255/50 R20 front, 275/45 R20 rear) come standard.

When to Order and What to Expect on Price

Customer reservations open October 26, 2026, with the official on-sale date and full price list in November. The six-seat N8L, which uses the same 130.15 kWh pack, starts near USD 42,000 and runs to around USD 46,200. The five-seat N8 is expected to slot into a similar, or slightly more accessible, window.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we hear most from families shopping the Denza N8.

Is the Denza N8 really a five-seater, and is that enough for a family?

Yes. It is a five-seat large SUV on a 3,075 mm wheelbase, with the third row removed to enlarge rear legroom and the boot. It is aimed at families of four or five who do not regularly carry more passengers.

How does the N8 compare with the six-seat Denza N8L?

They share the same battery, platform, width and wheelbase. The N8 is 50 mm shorter, has a bigger second row and cargo area, and seats five. The N8L adds a third row and starts near USD 42,000.

Can the N8 handle long family road trips?

The 130.15 kWh version delivers 1,003 km CLTC, with real-world cruising range around 750–800 km. Flash charging adds roughly 60% battery in five minutes, making highway stops comparable to refuelling a petrol car.

Is it easy to drive and park despite being over five metres long?

Rear-wheel steering and a 4.58 m turning radius make it manoeuvrable in city carparks. Standard features include air suspension, roof-mounted LiDAR and advanced driver-assist functions on higher trims.

Can Denza export the N8 to my country, and how do I get an FOB quote?
