On January 27, Tesla's Vice President Tao Lin shared a detailed introduction of the refreshed Tesla Model Y's air conditioning system on social media, sparking widespread attention.
Tao Lin highlighted Tesla's innovative Airwave system, which hides the air vents beneath the dashboard. When the airflow is released, it leverages the "Coandă effect" to provide a gentle breeze without feeling harsh. Users can precisely control airflow direction via the screen, ensuring the air blows exactly where needed. The system also integrates with driver memory, automatically adjusting to the user's preferred settings upon entry. Additionally, engineers have optimized the air ducts in the refreshed Model Y, allowing airflow to reach above head level. During hot summer days, cold air flows higher and naturally circulates downward due to its density, accelerating cabin cooling. Moreover, the Airwave 2.0 system automatically lowers fan speed during phone calls to minimize noise interference.
The refreshed Tesla Model Y officially launched on January 10, 2025, with two configurations priced at $37,100 and $42,700, respectively, reflecting a $1,700–$1,900 increase compared to the previous model. Deliveries are expected to begin in March 2025.
Exterior Design: The new Model Y adopts a more aerodynamic design instead of simply enlarging the Model 3, while retaining signature Tesla elements such as a panoramic roof, frameless doors, and hidden door handles, blending style with technology.
Interior Features: The minimalist design continues, featuring a 15-inch square display and AMD Ryzen chip for smooth operation and an intuitive system interface. The model also introduces ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and extended rear seats by an additional 15mm, which include a one-touch folding function. When folded, the storage space exceeds 2,130 liters.
Other Configurations: The refreshed Model Y comes with 16 speakers, standard remote airbags, AI 4 hardware, eight cameras, and an ultra-strong body structure. Its advanced driver assistance is claimed to be ten times safer than human driving.
Performance: The 2025 Model Y offers three versions: rear-wheel drive, long-range all-wheel drive, and performance. Maximum power outputs are 220kW, 331kW, and 357kW, respectively, with 0–100 km/h acceleration times of 5.9 seconds, 5 seconds, and 3.7 seconds. Tesla states the refreshed Model Y is the longest-range Model Y ever, with the long-range AWD version offering up to 719 km (CLTC estimated) and an energy consumption as low as 11.9 kWh/100 km. It can cover 1,000 km with only one charging stop, gaining approximately 250 km of range in just 15 minutes.
