Recently, Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company, sparked widespread controversy in the United States for driving the first electric model, the SU7, launched by China's Xiaomi.

In an exclusive interview with the "Everything Electric Show," Farley revealed that he had been driving the Xiaomi SU7, which he purchased from China, for the past six months. He stated that he no longer wished to drive the Ford car he previously owned.

However, Farley's remarks quickly attracted criticism from many American media outlets and commentators. Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute, accused Farley of disrespecting the thousands of hardworking employees at Ford Motor Company. He emphasized that it was deeply concerning for the company's CEO to choose a Chinese product, especially given that Ford is receiving billions of dollars in subsidies from American taxpayers to support electric vehicle production in the United States.

In response to the backlash, Farley later explained that he purchased and tested the Xiaomi SU7 not out of personal preference but to gain a deeper understanding of Ford's competitors. He argued that by driving the model himself, he could more intuitively grasp the strengths and weaknesses of competitors, enabling him to develop more effective competitive strategies for the company.

However, Farley's explanation did little to quell external doubts. Some commentators believe that as the leader of Ford, Farley should set an example and support the American auto industry. His actions may not only harm Ford's brand image but also undermine employee morale.

As Chinese automakers rapidly develop in the electric vehicle sector, international automakers increasingly feel competitive pressure from China. Jim Farley has repeatedly stated that Chinese automakers have become Ford's primary competitors.
